Clock Dial and Case Restoration

Dial silvering, hand refinishing, glass and bezel work, veneer repair and period-correct case finishing.

Dial & Case Restoration done properly

The movement keeps the time; the dial and case are what your family actually sees. Cosmetic work is handled as its own discipline in our shop, with the same rule as the mechanical side — stabilise and conserve first, refinish only when the original surface is genuinely beyond saving.

What this service covers

  • Silvered brass dials re-silvered and lacquered
  • Painted and porcelain dials cleaned and stabilised
  • Hands straightened, refinished or reblued
  • Bezels, glass, and convex crystals replaced
  • Veneer lifted and reglued, missing moulding recreated
  • French polish and shellac finishes matched to the period

Questions about dial & case restoration

Should a worn dial be repainted?

Usually not. Collectors value honest age, and a repaint is permanent. We recommend cleaning and stabilising first.

Can you match my case finish?

In most cases yes; we work in shellac and traditional finishes that can be blended into surviving original surfaces.

Do you replace broken clock glass?

Yes, including flat glass, convex crystals and bevelled door panels.
