What we do

Every mechanical clock is repairable. Most are worth it.

A clock that has stopped is rarely broken beyond help. In our experience, the majority of clocks brought to us are simply dry, dirty, out of beat, or worn in one or two predictable places. What separates a clock that runs for another fifty years from one that fails again in eighteen months is whether the movement was actually taken apart and serviced — or just sprayed, oiled and handed back.

  • Complete disassembly on every overhaul, without exception
  • Hand-fitted bushings and burnished pivots, not shortcuts
  • Two to four weeks of test running before a clock goes home
  • Honest advice when a clock is not worth restoring

Grandfather clocks

In-home service for floor clocks

Longcase clocks are the one type of clock that has to be understood in place. The case must be level, the movement must be in beat with the floor it stands on, and the weights must hang where the maker intended. We bring the bench to the clock.

Most in-home visits cover cleaning, oiling, beat setting, chime synchronisation and rate adjustment in a single appointment. When a movement genuinely needs an overhaul, we remove it, service it in the shop, and return to reinstall it.

What Boulder County customers say

★★★★★

Our Herschede had been silent since my father passed in 2011. Zeldavando took the movement out, kept it for five weeks, and brought it back sounding like the house I grew up in. They explained every line of the invoice before doing a thing.

Moved from Longmont to Superior and the movers left the pendulum in. Clock was dead on arrival. They came out, replaced the suspension spring, reset the beat, and it hasn't missed a minute since.

I brought in a French slate mantel clock from an estate sale expecting bad news. It just needed a proper cleaning. They could easily have sold me an overhaul and didn't.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of clocks do you repair?

Grandfather and floor clocks, mantel and shelf clocks, wall clocks and regulators, cuckoo clocks, carriage clocks, anniversary clocks and most antique mechanical movements. We also handle dial, case and glass restoration.

Do you make house calls?

Yes. Grandfather clocks and large wall clocks are usually serviced in the home. Smaller clocks are faster and less expensive to service on the bench at our Spruce Street shop in Boulder.

How much does clock repair cost?

Cleaning and oiling a mantel clock starts well below a full overhaul; a complete grandfather clock movement overhaul is a multi-week job priced accordingly. Every job is quoted in writing after inspection, and we never begin work without your approval.

How long will my repair take?

In-home adjustments are same-visit. Bench repairs on smaller clocks typically take one to three weeks. A full movement overhaul runs four to six weeks because the movement is test-run before it is returned.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. Overhauled and repaired movements carry a written warranty on our workmanship and the parts we supply.
